I’m experiencing…

Do you suspect that posture has something to do with your problems? You are right! Posture is how you support your body in relationship to gravity, and it’s a constant influence on you all day and all night. You might have been taught that posture is static, but it’s not. Every moving body needs postural anti-gravity support. If you want to learn about your posture and movement system, and how to use it to your best advantage, Mobile Body Alignment™ and the Alexander Technique are for you. The way you move has a profound effect on how you experience life. Your postural and movement systems calibrate all systems in your body, including breathing, circulation, digestion, and perception. Adaptable postural tone means that strength and mobility are in balance with each other. Some of us have low postural tone, and some of us have too much, or too much in the wrong places. Together we can sort it out for you!

Still want to know more? Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page for a more detailed description of lessons and to see what Clare’s students have to say about working with her. Once you decide you want to begin your study, 1 lesson per week is recommended to start; for more urgent challenges 2 lessons a week may be more effective short term. A series of 10 – 30 lessons is recommended if you want to make real, long lasting changes in your posture and movement.

All programs of study are payable by Paypal account or credit card of your choice via Paypal, Square or Venmo.

Lessons in the Mobile Body Alignment™ and the Alexander Technique are like re-learning to speak your native language, a language you used to know but have forgotten from lack of use. It’s a language based on who you really are, rather than who you thought you were supposed to be. It is the language of balance, ease, and coordination. We start right away by exploring the specific challenges you are facing. If mobility is an issue for you, we take our time to work out practical, pain-free ways of moving. If you are already very mobile, I work to extend your range of movement and expression. Either way, I help you surpass what you may have thought of as your “limits.” Together, we discover a goal or goals that you want to achieve.

I work with you on simple common movements such as sitting, standing, squatting, walking, turning, lying down, and getting up off the floor. It’s important to explore more than just the upright, standing relationship to gravity. Once you understand how to flow through those movements, then we go on to face your particular challenges in your work or skills that you use in your daily life. That process will invariably be unique to each individual – that’s the reason for individual lessons. The theory behind the technique is important, so while we work I translate this information into language that you can understand. Knowing the Alexander Technique concepts can profoundly change the way you think about yourself and your movement, and is key to you being able to get the most out of your lessons and continue reaping the benefits when you finish with your course of study. I am your guide in terms of knowing, for real, that you have achieved what you set out to do with your studies.

Clare is fantastic! I have done ridiculous things in the past year that should have wrecked my back but because of the work I did with Clare I have been able to develop so much more strength and mobility and without pain! I was a mess last year from sitting so much while narrating with horrible back pain. I went to Clare – who is an amazing Alexander teacher – and she helped me to correct my posture when I’m sitting and walking and gave me exercises to release my neck and spine. I would recommend her highly!

Over 10 years ago, I read about Alexander Technique in the press and was intrigued. My main concern was poor posture from working seated, but also some bad emotional habits that were manifesting themselves physically. I was fortunate enough to find Clare, and what she taught me I still go back to today when I feel my body tense up. I highly recommend her.

Every day, I find myself becoming more and more conscious and aware of how I’m moving through space. Alexander Technique with Clare has truly made a difference in my world, bringing me home into this body, which has been so unfamiliar and strange and foreign for so long.  If you’d told me that this would happen when we began this journey just over a year ago, I would have laughed and told you that you’re crazy.  But here we are.  And here it is.  Right on.

The kind of body consciousness I learned from Clare has cured my back problem, given me more energy, and helped my breathing, which is wonderful, as I suffer from asthma. The renewed vitality I feel after almost every session must mean also a longer life.

I remember I told Clare, when I first contacted her about lessons, that I didn’t think she would be able to help me with my problem. She laughed and said it was good for me to be skeptical. What is unexpected is that I am better. I have been amazed at the extent to which what happens in my mind is connected to what is happening in my body, and vice versa. When you start to let go, you let go of a lot. My back pain has disappeared. If it returns, I know how to fix it on my own. I used to visit the chiropractor once a week for my back pain. I haven’t seen him in a year.
